DESCRIPTION:Alan McAulay MRICS BSc(HONS)\, Building Standards Hub Director \nAlan is a Director of the Scottish Building Standards Hub. The role of the Hub\, which is currently in its pilot stage\, is to support Local Authority verifiers and wider industry stakeholders to strengthen the overall building standards system in Scotland. Alan is a chartered building surveyor with 34 years’ experience within the building standards system in Scotland having previously worked for Glasgow City Council and South Lanarkshire Council. Alan also provides technical support to Local Authority Building Standards Scotland\, this includes providing advice and guidance to Local Authorities and other stakeholders on technical and procedural building standards related matters. \nTopic: \nAlan will provide an update on the Building Standards Hub Pilot programme\, its aims\, and objectives\, and how it will seek to support verifiers and wider industry stakeholders\, with a focus on the interests of CIOB members. He will also provide an update on recent changes to the building regulations and what changes are on the horizon for the future. \nFollowed by a Q&A session.

From a design perspective we must consider building performance\, quality and monitoring\, but there are also significant barriers in terms of funding and skills capacity in order to implement the changes required. ECD Architects director Alistair Cameron will discuss these challenges\, and through review of current ECD projects\, explore how these challenges can be met.

DESCRIPTION:Site Visit to Kintore Station \nThe £14.5m station will reconnect Kintore to the rail network for the first time in 56 years. \nFunded by Transport Scotland\, Aberdeenshire Council and Nestrans\, the new station will have step-free access between platforms through a footbridge with lifts. \nProviding an interchange between rail and road\, the station will have around 170 car parking spaces\, bike storage and connect into the local bus network.The station will be constructed over the next 12 months and is due to enter service in May 2020.
