SUMMARY:Technology with Tradition: Digital Scanning & Repair of Fort George
DESCRIPTION:The imposing Fort George was designed by Lieutenant-General William Skinner and built by the Adam family of architects. It took 22 years to complete and has served the British Army for the almost 250 years since. \nTo mark this 250 anniversary\, Historic Environment Scotland (HES) will commence the digital scanning of areas of Fort George in May 2019. This event will include a site visit led by our Monument Conservation Unit to view work in progress on the rebuilding of the masonry sentry boxes at Fort George. Logistics and project set-up will be discussed including methods for describing/specifying works. Time lapse footage of the process will also be discussed along with the relevance and application of digital scanning in preserving our built heritage. \nThis is a Highlands and Islands Traditional Building Forum event hosted by HES. The event is targeted to Contractors & Apprentices working on tradition building repairs. \nProgramme outline: \nArrive 11.45 (on site at sentry box) \nPlease bring PPE (hard hat and boots) or inform organisers if PPE required. \n12.00 – 12.30 Site visit sentry box masonry project.
