SUMMARY:Panel for Historical Engineering Works Scottish Group trip to East Sutherland
DESCRIPTION:The trip to East Sutherland includes 3 nights’ accommodation in Dornoch. Travel will be by coach and train. \nICE members and members of the public wishing to join for one day only will be most welcome. \n3 days’ Dinner Bed & Breakfast plus travel costs comes to approximately £400 per person. \nPoints of interest are:- \n\nThe most northerly of the major Scottish hydro-electric schemes\nThe two most northern freight-carrying canals in the UK\nThe location of the most northerly coalmine in the UK\nThe site of the tramway that carried coal from the mine to the harbour and railway station\nThe oldest fish-ladder in the world\nThe oldest bridge in Sutherland\nThe site of the UK naval gunnery range\nThe listening outpost of Government Central Communications Headquarters (GCHQ)\nThe most northerly railway heritage centre in Britain\nJourney along the full length of The Sutherland Railway\n\nThe journey sets off from Inverness at 13.30 on Thursday 4 July and finishes back in Inverness at 16.15 on Sunday 7 July.
