Technology with Tradition: Digital Scanning & Repair (Contractors)

Friday, May 24, 2019 @ 11:30 am - 2:00 pm

£30

The imposing Fort George was designed by Lieutenant-General William Skinner and built by the Adam family of architects. It took 22 years to complete and has served the British Army for the almost 250 years since.

To mark this 250 anniversary, Historic Environment Scotland (HES) will commence the digital scanning of areas of Fort George in May 2019. This event will include a site visit led by our Monument Conservation Unit to view work in progress on the rebuilding of the masonry sentry boxes at Fort George. Logistics and project set-up will be discussed including methods for describing/specifying works. Time lapse footage of the process will also be discussed along with the relevance and application of digital scanning in preserving our built heritage.

This is a Highlands and Islands Traditional Building Forum event hosted by HES. The event is targeted to Contractors & Apprentices working on tradition building repairs.
